Razer Blade 15 vs MacBook Pro Detailed Comparison

Razer Blade 15

MacBook Pro

As a reference, we will be comparing the maxed out variants of both the machines. And, those released in 2020. Razer Blade also released an advanced series, but with minimal change to specs. But, just to compare the best we’ll be sticking with the advanced Razer Blade 15 2020. Yet, the specs of the non-advanced series will put their title to shame. As for Apple, as usual, they provide you with many configurable options. But, we’ll stick with the maximum upgrading possible.

Design

Whoever said looks don’t matter, didn’t know what he was talking about. After all, when you are paying top dollar for something, you want everything to be premium. You don’t have to worry about that with these two machines. They are both designed to be sleek and modern. Both of them boast elegant aluminium chassis and minimalistic looks with just the logo. But, the MacBook Pro has a much thinner bottom bezel making the display seamless.

MacBook Pro has a simple backlit black keyboard against the grey body. The colour combination of Razer Blade 15 2020 is the same. Still, the lighting options are RGB adding to the overall gamer look. You can customise the colour of each key to your liking. Also, Apple gives a much thinner and lighter machine when compared with the Razer Blade’s 19.9mm thickness.

Performance

CPU and Memory

Apple takes the win here with the Intel’s latest Core i9 CPU as one of the configurable options. The Razer Blade 15 2020, however, has the 10th Gen i7 CPU which is not bad at all. 10th Generation CPUs are incredibly power efficient, but the new Core i9 packs more processing power. Both the laptops come with a base 16 GB DDR4 RAM, and it can be upgraded to 64 GB.

In short, Razer Blade is a perfect gaming combination. But, it never hurts to have more processing power at your disposal. And, Apple’s Core i9 CPU definitely takes the win.

Storage: Both laptops have upgradeable SSD storages. But, Apple offers a much more extensive range of up to 4 TB of storage space. That does not come cheap, though. Apple takes its money’s worth from you before giving you the experience.

Graphics

It is, without a doubt, a fact that both the machines are configured to be powerful gaming machines. But, with both the laptops using different technology for their GPUs, this makes for a more extended discussion. Razer Blade 15 2020 offers you NVidia’s latest RTX technology 2080 super GPU. However, Apple maintains its higher level of flexibility still. Apple will let you get an AMD Radeon 5500M or 5600M GPU. Even though both of them are AMD tech, there is a little bit of a technical difference.

Both options have 8 GB of storage space. However, 5500M uses the DDR6 tech for its memory while 5600M uses the HBM2. Simply speaking, the HBM2 is much more power-efficient with less heat generation but very costly to manufacture when compared with the DDR6. It is up to you to decide which one suit you best.

The discussion is detailed when we talk about the competition between the two GPUs. NVidia boasts the Turing architecture with RTX tech. The AMD Radeon pro 5600M uses the Navi/RDNA architecture and the debate gets technical. But, the pro 5600M loses in raw power and processing. In terms of pure gaming or graphics rendering, Razer Blade 15 2020 has the upper hand.

Display

Apple gives you a 4k 16 inch LED display. Apple’s screen has a sharp display and crisp images. But, the 4k OLED display of Razer Blade 15 2020 knocks everything else out of the park. The OLED display gives your screen a vibrant look. It even makes the jet black colour look deep and vibrant. The rest of the colours are crisp and sharp, giving you an unbelievable experience. Also though Apple boasts a 16-inch display (0.4 inches more than Razer), Razer takes the win here with OLED.

Both the Laptops are available in touch-screen variants.

Connectivity

When it comes to ports and accessory connection, Apple falls short as usual. The MacBook Pro may have a sleeker and more defined style, but, it only gives you 4 Thunderbolts max. If you are a heavy accessory user, you might have to carry dongles for them wherever you go. And that is a disappointment for such an expensive machine.

Razer Blade 15 2020, however, offers a 3.2 USB port in addition to the thunderbolt and a USB type C. Not only that, but you also get an HDMI 2.0 and an Ethernet cable port. Razer takes the win here with their flexibility.

Battery Life

Apple has max 11 hours of battery life when using Wi-Fi. But the battery performance degrades when you do more demanding jobs like playing games or rendering graphics. With Razer’s OLED display, it gives you only 7 hours of battery life. All things considered, 7 hours is not bad timing. But, in comparison, Apple takes the win with four more hours of average battery life.

Audio

The speaker technology of Apple is way higher than Razer. Apple offers some of the best laptop speakers available in the market right now. And, when compared, Razer’s speakers seem really bad. Razer gives you acceptable sound quality when it comes to definition, bass quality, and treble. But, Apple is a class apart. The speakers sound incredibly accurate and mesmerising. And, if that was not enough, Apple’s top volume is almost twice as high as Razer. Yet, it still maintains the quality.

Verdict

Both machines have their pros and cons. Apple has more processing power under its hood, but if you want to talk graphics rendering and gaming, Razer Blade 15 2020 packs more GPU power. Razer has a better display, but Apple boasts a sleeker design and more battery power. Yet, overall, Razer Blade 15 2020 is the clear champion here today. But, depending upon your requirements and purchasing ability, you might want to go for Apple.
